Pre-school dance curriculum - Level 1 (Age - minimum 3.5 years)
Pre-school dance curriculum - Level 2 (Age - minimum 4 years)

Pre-school dance curriculum is a structured framework that introduces fundamental movements which are used in a variety of ways to develop a child’s ability to move efficiently, effectively and safely. Between the ages of three to five, children learn to control and coordinate their movements and this is the time to allow them opportunities to imagine, explore and be creative through movement. The learning activities include stability and travelling movements such as balancing, bouncing, skipping, leaping that encourages class participation. A variety of stimuli such as music and props are used to consolidate with the framework which incorporates The Royal Academy of Dance syllabi - Dance to your own tune. Pre-school dance curriculum aims to develop confidence, expression, an appreciation for music and essential movement skills that will prepare the child for a structured ballet class in the future.


Pre-Primary in Dance (Age - minimum 5 years)
Primary in Dance (Age - minimum 6 years)

The Pre-Primary (PPID) and Primary in Dance (PID) aim to develop physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality by using a range of sounds and musical styles. The foundation prepares students for a successful transition to the next level under the RAD syllabus content.
Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance are the introductory levels of RAD’s Graded Examination syllabus. They follow on from the Pre-School Dance Curriculum and provide a pathway into Grade 1 and above.

Grades 1 to Grade 3 (Age - minimum 7 years)
Grades 1 to 3 aim to develop the knowledge and understanding of fundamental and relevant technique required with the ability to demonstrate secure posture, correct weight placement, coordination of whole body, line, spatial awareness and dynamic values. In progressing through these levels, students are expected to have increased understanding of vocabulary as defined by syllabus content. These Graded Examinations constitute Level 1 of the RAD’s Graded syllabus provision in the performance of ballet. They are the first three in a suite of eight grades. An entry pathway to Grade 1 is provided by RAD’s Primary in Dance syllabus.


Grades 4 and Grade 5 (Age - minimum 9 years)
In progressing through to this level, Grades 4 and 5 focuses on developing an understanding of technique reflected in the ability to coordinate movements in a series of sequences with an increasing vocabulary and awareness. Students will be able to have an increased level of performance skill, Interpretation to music, developing spatial awareness, responsiveness to audience and an ability to work with others. These Graded Examinations constitute Level 2 of the RAD’s Graded syllabus provision in the performance of ballet. They are the fourth and fifth in a suite of eight grades. An entry pathway to Grade 1 is provided by RAD’s Primary in Dance syllabus.

Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8 (Age - minimum 11 years)
In the higher grades level, students will build upon a range of skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to an increasingly refined vocabulary of movement and artistic interpretation showing an increased confidence, assurance and sensitivity. These Graded Examinations constitute Level 3 of the RAD’s Graded syllabus provision in the performance of ballet. They are the sixth, seventh and eighth in a suite of eight grades.

Pointe
Progressing from Pre-school Dance Curriculum to higher grades, dancing on Pointe is one of the major goal in ballet training. The Pointe class focuses on strength, rotation, alignment and balance needed to make a successful transition from the barre to center.
* Students who wish to join this class must in Grade 6 or above.


Repertoire
Repertoire is a complete choreographed set of well-known dance pieces performed by a ballet company and it is presented regularly with alternate list each season. Ballet variations and solos will be taught in stages throughout each term. The Repertoire class helps to build a strong understanding and appreciation of traditional to contemporary ballets.
